SUMMARY:Study of the characteristics and performance of cold-bonded briquettes made from return fines of sinter
DESCRIPTION:Return fines of sinter (return fines) is used to prepare cold-bonded briquette (CBB). The powder generation rate, compressive strength, reduction disintegration index (RDI) of RDI+3.15 and compressive strength after RDI experiment of CBB are higher than that of sinter. For microscopic morphologies after RDI experiment, cracks initiate in the area of the return fines but don’t propagate through the whole matrix of CBB. Reduction index (RI) of CBB is lower than that of sinter, conversely, the compressive strength of CBB after RI experiment is higher than that of sinter. The CBB has been successfully utilized in the blast furnaces in northwest China, thus replacing 5-15% of sinter.
